Escobar,Columbia, and the World Cup
ESPN the sports channel network made a great documentary about how Columbia made it to the 1994 World Cup. Although making it to the World Cup is usually an extremely proud and joyful event for team, this documentary tells the story of the infamous Medellin Drug Cartels and their connection to the 1994 World Cup.
This snippet goes into the backgrounds of many Columbian "Futbólistas" or soccer players. It is explains who these athletes where before they achieved career succees as professional athletes. This clip briefly goes into the violence and poverty where a lot of professional athletes in Latin America like in many places all over the world come from.
Motorbikes:
Japanese
American
& European
When most people think of BMW they think of nice cars. A lot of people forget however that BMW and a lot of other auto manufacturers also make motorcycles. Ducati is an Italian Motorcycle brand as another example. Even though we know about motorcycles here in the United States, motorcycles are really big internationally. They're small and good on gas which is perfect for those tight roads you might have seen in the movies when Europe is depicted. Europe in my opinion brings up images of really dense towns where people do not have much space as opposed to when I think of the "Old West,The Great Plains,The Great Lakes." Here in the United States I imagine big open spaces which makes sense that trucks/S.U.Vs are big here. Trucks fit a lot of passengers, are good over rough terrain and they're comfortable to ride in which reflects American life i.e. dropping kids off at school in the suburbs and then driving a distance into a larger urban city a bit away then driving back home. Motorbikes would be way more useful in Europe so they have defiantly had lifetimes to perfect what is a great motorcycle.

Next up are bikes from the small island nation of Japan. Japan like Europe, has these dense urban areas where a lot of people live together. This layout makes sure every inch of space is used wisely in everything from the houses to the cars. I also think that World War 2 has to be mentioned when thinking about Japan. People in Japan lost family, the little money they had, and control over their country with NATO occupying Japan until 1952. Japan was so devastated by the war that all the engineering that was made big in the last 50+ years was influenced by that completely horrific time. Kawasaki,Yamaha, and Honda are some of those huge names in Japan that where really able to pull themselves out of the rubble. For the citizens of Japan to be veterans and survivors of what was possibly the worst war between countries in human history and over come that mental trauma to dominate and be titans in the motorcycle world is really sad but also interesting inspiring and definitely needs to be told.

Harley Davidsons and Indian Brand Motorcycles are big players in the American Motorcycle scene. The approach to motorcycles in the United States is very different. In the United States a big area of bikes that are popular are called "choppers". Choppers are the big heavy bikes you would see on tv shows about motorcycle clubs. These things are like American sports cars like the Mustang or Camaro because they are not particularly big but they guzzle gas. Harleys like the one pictured below are Grand Tourers or GT cars. This means that the emphasis is more on comfort and distance rather than getting around a downtown city area easily. A Harley isn't a racing bike you're not going to take it to the track, these type of bikes are more for when you just want to take a long drive by yourself and get some things off your mind. Each bike has its pros and cons but Harleys are defiantly beautiful and when you hear them squealing down the street you'll remember why bikes are called Hogs.
